There is lack of adequate parental attention in upbringing children in the American society. It is a socio-cultural problem because till date even after 400 years of colonisation Americans have not grown as an uniform society with one way of living. Way of living has to do more with mental and spiritual living than material aspect of it.

Kids make mistakes no matter how hard you try to protect them, no matter how well you've raised them. At least this girl will have a husband to help her and her family around her. Unfortunately teenage pregnancy is no big deal in this day and age. I would be far more concerned about how Mrs Palin plans to cope with a high powered job yet still give a Downs Syndrome baby - which is only 4 or 5 months old - all the love and attention it requires. She is going to be a working mum away from home a lot of the time and a nanny is no real substitute for a mother's love, especially for a child who will need special care.

I'm 19 and not a mother however many of my friends are and it's unacceptable.

My parents raised me properly I guess.
There is always going to be young girls with babies but it's crazy just how many there are.

The media is making children grow up too fast. The parents even are making children grow up way too fast.

Children want to grow up faster than they need to. It's all that mixed together.

Even the shows on tv for children are really mature. It's a bit crazy.

I wish young girls would stop and actually take a look around, look at the girls with young babies and put theirself in that persons life for a day and really see what being young and a mother is all about. it's really sad.

Also that doll they give to students in parenting class grade 11. I had that doll for a week and it was a joke. Mine was on the hardest level plus colicy and it was a complete joke! I still got to go out with friends, I still did all my normal activities. It did not at all hold me down. So that was just a joke, but I grew up around children and want to own day cares so I know the truth about children and that's enough to keep me from having any for a while!

I don't think there is a "maximum number" as you say - but why do we have more than other nations. I believe that is probably true because in some cultures unlike the United States it is expected to be married at an earlier age and the fact that you are looking at raw numbers and not at percentages of the population that would be a better indicator of how widespread in American society this is.

Good Luck!!!

I personally think that it is the lack of parental supervision. I really believe if more parents were involved with their children and knew what was going on with them most of the pregnancies could be avoided. There are too many kids running around and their parent(s) don't know where they are or who they are with or what they are doing. I always knew where my kids were, who they were with, met the other parents, had an involvement that you don't hear much about anymore. My question is this, what is there for a teenager to do at 11 o'clock at night? Now I understand you just don't get pregnant at night, but maybe it is a thought.

Because we have 30 million blacks in America, Plato. If we dumped all the blacks in, say, Finland, then Finland would have the maximum number of unmarried minor mothers.

Problem is not only with US but see whats situation in Norway and UK.
This is so called WOMEN-LIB and rights we had created which right now are going against us.
Now this is very complicated sitiation. And no one formula can be used ...but family values had been seriously effected in these societies. When parents can not control....kids and they are busy in their respective lives and carriers so much that they forget that they are role models to some angle souls.....such things happen.

What I am worried about is...countries like INDIA. We are following US culture blindly and now all those evils are coming to INDIA very very fast.

I assume you are refering to per capita statisic percentages of of developed nations only, and yes it is a reflection of changes in both socio-cultural values and increasing socio-ecconomic standard with out responsibility.
