"Can you eat natto?" is getting old. I have fun with "What's your blood type" because I answer A, B or O at random and then I am invariably told that I am just like whatever blood type I supplied at random.

Do you like Japanese food?

Seriously. They know I've lived in Japan almost 10 years, and still ask if I can manage to tolerate any Japanese food. These days, I usually say, "No, I only eat hamburgers and pizza. I AM American, after all." OR "Yes, I only eat sushi, every day, breakfast, lunch and dinner!"

I agree about the "Can you use chopsticks?" question, but it usually comes in the form of an amzed comment "Oh, you can use chopsticks!" rather than a question.

(-: I really try hard not to let anything get on my nerves these days, but since you ask . . . .

I hate it when people ask "Where are you from?" And when I answer "Makubetsu," they look so befuddled. I've been here 11 years -- more than a fourth of my life! And I plan to be here quite a while more, so I only see this question getting more and more absurd as time goes on.

But hey, *I* choose to be here, a fish out of water, a monkey in a construction site. It's not my fault people have narrow perceptions, but OTOH, it's not really their fault, either.

Can you speak Japanese?

I don't get irritated at the question but at the response that people give me when I say that I can speak a little. Mos tJapanese have a stereotype that all Gaijin can only speak English. Ok, so I am not fluent in Japanese but I can get by.

♡I wouldn't so much say 'irritating', but interesting!(*^o^*)
I've been here over 9 years and still get asked the same questions over and over....
I just don't mind though.(^_-)-☆
"Do you sleep on a bed??"
"WHY'D you marry a Japanese guy??"
"Did you understand all that?" (When they speak in Japanese.)
"Would you be my English teacher?"
...and of course all the Q.s the others have already listed.♡

I was asked all these about a million times. Always in Japanese so I never had the 'can you seak japanese' because I always was.
"Are you american?"
"Can you eat..." sushi/natto/umeboshi
"Do you like japanese girls"
"do you want to see me **** can you show me your ****" (from young teenage boys)
and so many more

Top 5:

American?
English teacher?
What Japanese food do you like?
What do you think of Japanese boys/girls?
Do you know baseball? (for whatever reason, it's always, "Do you know baseball...?")

It became second nature, like "how's the weather?" or "How's it going?" to me.
