Do you just want mindless entertainment where you can shut down your brain? Do you want a high quality 'film' with great acting, directing, and/or writing? Do you want high intensity action or adventure? Or are you more about comedy?
I mainly go for a good drama or thriller. Having a good director and/or good cast is always a plus. I'm also game for foreign films and smaller 'arty' movies. Comedy is more difficult as I can't stand dumb screwball comedies (especially if they have Will Ferrell or Rob Schnider) and I don't like pretentious comedies like The Royal Tenenbaums. And I'm rarely going to go for horror - especially this new genre which includes Saw, Hostel, etc.

I agree with you all the way. I don't watch just for the sake of having something to watch. I need it to entertain me.
I prefer a good thriller, mystery, or drama over comedy any day. It must have a good storyline with believable actors. If I don't like it in the first 10 minutes then I probably won't continue to watch it.

I love a lot of different kinds of movies....action/adventure, romantic comedies, mysteries, some dramas....but I hate screwball type of comedies, like Jim Carey, 3 stooges, etc. I want a movie that will make me feel good, make me do some thinking, or just entertain me. I won't watch a movie just for mindless passing of time; I would rather be on the computer doing something creative instead of that. It has to be a movie I really enjoy watching. I just watched "The Postman" and it is very thought-provoking and an all around great movie. I do like the futuristic movies too.

a.) and b) and sometimes e). It depends on my mood. If it's just regular movie watching period, I would look for a movie with both a good storyline and actors/actresses, however if I'm wasting time, the criteria doesn't matter much and I'll watch anything.

if ur with a girl you want some chick flick or a comedy in general i watch comedies, and like chick flick comedies like Mean Girls or i like to watch little kid movies like THe Polar Express, Aladdin, Lion king, you kno go bak to childhood memories and the songs are so funny

royal tennenbaums is one of my favorite movies not pretentious !
i love great indie movies w/obscure actors-I'm not really into
dramas or action definitely NOT romantic comedies
