The exchange rate for the dollar and euro is making it very expensive for Americans to travel in Europe. Many of my friends are staying away from Europe and travel in the USA or cheaper countries like South America these days.

I did not know that there were fewer Americans touring Italy. I am Italian American and visited Italy 20 years ago and experienced a lot of anti-Americanism from the natives. I was very disappointed with that attitude so it discouraged me from re-visiting Italy. Though I think the country is beautiful and so full of history. I really would like to go back to visit if I could be assured that I would be more welcomed this time. Regardless, I am proud of my Italian heritage.
