If you are asking is the puritan's beliefs had a lasting impact on the U.S., then the answer is absolutely yes.

The first is legacy is a good one. They came here to escape religious persecution. As a result, this country has done a pretty good job at respecting other religions. You might look around and see the opposite, but keep in mind the U.S. had to deal with a lot more diversity than other countries. We have everything. Most countries have massive majorities who all follow the religion and are part of the same race and ethnic tradition. Even what we call whites, are broken up along religious and ethnic heritage.

The second legacy of the Puritan I do not consider so good. We are a very conservative country. We vote and think based on what some god might want us to do. We are scared our children might see a naked person or here someone say a bad word. At the same we let T.V. reinforce that it is o.k. to resolve all conflicts with violence. Opps, off the soap box. Actually the last 15 years haven't been as bad on the networks.

Our founders left us with a dual legacy of religious freedom and conservative fears.

America is most certainly still a Christian nation, as a result of our Puritan history. "Blue laws" banning the sale of alcohol on Sunday demonstrate this; the fact that roughly 50% of Americans deny all scientific evidence of evolution in favor of the Biblical account also shows this.
