If you are here for tourism, you really won't be near the high crime areas. I would stay away from the East Side as well as North Las Vegas. The area around downtown can be pretty seedy as well.
If you are staying on the strip or the West Side, you have nothing to worry about.

The area around Nellis Air Force Base, and North Las Vegas.
I also wouldn't go walking the unpopulated areas of downtown and the upper Strip. (Like from around Stratosphere to downtown.)

Agree with Zippy...but you also need to stay away from areas directly off the strip. The neighborhoods to the southeast of the strip are crime-filled.
Stay in the 'touristy' areas after dark and you'll be fine.

When I was there in December, the cab driver warned us about the around downtown outside of the Fremont Street area.

Anywhere off the beaten path. There is nothing to do or see off the Strip and anything off Fremont St is scary.

You're going to there to gamble and you're worried about having your money stolen?
