OK, my friend and I have been in a debate over the accuracy of home prenancy test kits. I saw it only needs to detect a small amount of the hormone to show a positive. I had asked yesterday if a pregnant woman pees in a pool, would a home pregnancy test kit detect it. Overwhelmingly, everyone answered and said NO, the size of the pool and the chlorine would not detect it. So, now my friend and I are debating if you used a smaller body of water, like a bathtub. I am curious if this could prove my point. I am curious if any pregnant women would like to participate in an experiment. If you peed in a bathtub and then filled it up with water, then stick a home pregnancy kit in it if it will show a ++++. Any takers for this experiment?

Let me help you out... I'm 9 months pregnant, I had some pregnancy tests left..... out of curiosity I pissed in a glass about 2oz and filled the rest with filtered water 6oz (no chlorine) and guess what?!!! I'm NOT pregnant. LOL. Let me tell you, i'm looking at about a 40 inch waiste and it's ALL baby. Sorry i didn't do it in a bathtub but i knew that was going to say negative already. (it's why they tell you not to drink too much water before taking the test as it wont be accurate, just gotta read the instructions to get that)

I don't believe it would show a positive result. Simply because the water it's self would dilute the test. When you take a pregnancy test, they say to use the first urine of the day. Like when you first wake up in the morning. This is because the first urine is the most potent. It has not been diluted throughout the day. The more you pee, the more diluted it becomes. So if you pee in the tub, there is way too much dilution to detect a positive result.

No, pee in the tub would not be strong enough for the test strip to detect. Pregnancy tests are designed for the urine stream and the urine stream alone. Anything else will give you sketchy results.

Still wouldn't work in a tub full of water. The urine has to be concentrated to show a positive.

I think it would be too diluted to show a positive, if you drink a lot of water before you take a test it can show a false negative.

Gosh i can't believe some people. It would be too diluted just like a preg test and give you a neg when you are preg because there's not enough hormone duh!
