how has entertainment changed from then to now?

Well, a little more in tune with reality for one. No matter how we long for the good ole days, the way it was represented on TV had nothing to do with reality.

In the 50's there were single moms, extra marital affairs, drinking and drug problems, sex, profanity, racism, political satire, yet you saw little or none of that on TV. Christ, they wouldn't even show a pregnant Lucy since it was inappropriate to show a pregnant woman on TV!

With respect to the writing, it's much much faster now, and much more quantity the script from one episode of West Wing would have been an entire season of Leave it to Beaver.

The standard "Family" entertainment has been all but eliminated since today's version of a family has changed significantly. Three's Company would have been considered erotic in the 50's and would have never aired.

Other entertainment, like board games, popular card games have been replaced with faster moving more interactive games like Trivial Pursuit and others.

A movie is what you did when you didn't have much money, now it's what you do if you DO have money.

How entertainment has changed has to do not only with the content of the entertainment but also the means and all the options we have now.
In the 1950's TV was still in its infancy not everyone had TV sets in their homes. Listening to the radio (shows) was generally a family experience. And prior to radio people read a lot more books for entertainment. We went from reading, to listening, to a visual bombardment. The next step will be involving our sense of smell to go along with it....Smell - a-vision...
Little is left to the imagination now.

I have the urge to say that it has taken a turn for the worst. But perhaps I am just not as aware of today's talent as much as I am with the golden age of entertainment.
