Yahoo has it up front on its video collection today, but this is not the only day to listen. And not just the fragment about "I have a dream," but the whole speech, and the context of the speech.

It was an enormous, entirely peaceful, rally in Washington, DC. And much of the progress you can see, the legal issues he mentioned, was due to the energy generated by that rally, and that speech. Listen to it again. It's not just for blacks, it's for everyone; in fact, Dr. King makes that point.

Yes. When it was first broadcast and several times since. I have also read it from start to finish (but the written word does not have the same effect).

In the context of the time and the social situation, this is one of the most important speeches in American history. It should be drilled into every grade school student and repeated as necessary through college.

Tolerance is the first step to acceptance. Acceptance leads to friendship. The United States of America still needs to become a friendly nation. For ourselves and for the rest of the world.

Yes, I have listened to it on tapes and some of his other speeches. One of my colleagues in the school I work in read - recited the whole speech over the announcements a year ago this week and it was very inspiring. He let me borrow his tapes so I could listen to the speeches and they were very moving, as you say for all people.

Yes, I listened to it for the first time last year in college in speech class. I think it is sad that I never heard it before college.

Yes. I remember the part where he said:

"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."

Would Affirmative Action, or African American scholarships be supported by MLK? I think not.

You know, what's more fun is to listen to the things he says and try to figure out who said them first. It's a fun game, I call it "Pin the tail on the plagiarizing commie jerk"
