Singapore really doesn't have a good beach. There's a man-made one in Sentosa. But frankly speaking, you're gonna be pretty let down by it. Especially if you've been elsewhere.
So i'd suggest you go to some other places in the region. It really will be alot better.
Some places i can think of now are Penang, Kuantan, Cherating, Tioman. All in Malaysia. You can either drive, take a coach or fly to these places via Singapore.
Ummm, then there's Phuket, Bali and of course Bintan. All accessible by flight from Singapore.
Both budget and other airlines fly there.
And have a good holiday!

Costs wise, batam is cheaper than bintan, but both not that far off from singapore's price.
But if you are looking for a short beach stay to relax, sentosa would be a good place, esp. for kids. There's lots of stuff to do while in sentosa, like the underwater world, LUGE, etc. That's if you guys have not been to Sentosa for a long time. Save the hassle of travelling to bitan or batam.
A cheaper alternative are chaleting at pasir ris or changi holiday resorts, book thru sites like Costa Sands, PA and Aloha...
Remember, the FUN is not determined by WHERE you go, but by WHO you go with..... enjoy the family !!!

For one month you should find a friend you can stay with. Singapore is more a transit place for travellers catching their flights home or taking a short stopover. There are lots of budget hotels in Singapore especially in the red-light area who are willing to consider special rates for long term stay. Many HDB home-owners are not allowed to rent out their rooms and many don't due to the danger of harbouring illegals which may land them in jail. For long stay, I suggest you head to Thailand where A frame huts by the beach costs a few dollars a day.

Bintan would be the best for its resort along the beach, especially if you go with your family and intend to stay over night.
For daily trip, you can consider Sentosa island.

Alamak gave a good answer to ur qn. Sentosa wud be the best choice.. next wud be chalets at pasir ris or changi.. east coast park has it too.
but to think of it, singapore is much safer compared to bintan.. sentosa wud be nice cos the water is much cleaner compared to the beach on mainland.. sentosa is off-coast. have fun!

sentosa island. only accomodation known are hotel rooms.
bintan and bantam are known more for their crime (u can get stolen cars there cheap) and prostitution - not exactly the best place for a family holiday ...
