cancer, and the person is scared their Grandma is going to die?
I've never been good at talking about death and illness, I get to afraid I will say the wrong thing and seem insensitive.

Sometimes you don't have to say anything. Just be there for your friend. Lend him/her a compassionate ear and a shoulder to cry on. This person is your friend so just tell them that talking about death and illness is as difficult for you as it is for them. I'm sure you won't say anything that seems insensitive and I'm sure your friend will understand. Talking about death is a very difficult subject for everyone just keep being a great friend. I thikn the best thing is just to listen to your friend.
My grandmother had and died from cancer almost 2 years ago. My life completly fell apart and im still not the same. At the time my best friend was very supportive, But she didnt understand the countinuing grief i experienced after her death. She didnt understand how after a year i could still be crying about it. Thats when she did the most insensitive thing telling me that i needed to stop crying and i couldnt do anything about, to get on with my life. thatt scarred my love for that friend and i no longer am friends with her.
no matter what, dont be insensitve. try to put yourself in her place before saying anything.

Nothing. Just being there and listening is enough usually. If she dies just be there.

pray for them and tell them you are doing so
listen alot
tell them you are there for them
tell them they will see her again when Jesus comes back
