I'm from michigan, and my bike's been my primary mode of transport for the last two winters. Road salt beats the hell out of the motorcycle, highway riding just isn't fun with how cold it gets, and it takes forever for the engine to warm up, but it's a crazy, wonderful experience. I would suguest you get a beater of a bike, you know the $500 specials, if you have a nice one so it doesn't get eaten by the salt or damaged when you're stuck out in a blizzard. That and keep the MPH really low when it gets nasty out if you're on the road and find the nearest place to wait out the storm.

Absolutely...it's 30 degrees here and I'm headed out for a 60 mile round trip. Just be sure to where enough leather and a good face mask, and don't forget gloves. Other than that, ride away!

If it's 25 degrees and you are out in a field blasting through the snow on a snowmobile nobody thinks you're weird...but get on a bike on a dry pavement at 25 degrees and people look at you like you're a mental case...LOL! As long as the road is not icy or snowy I'll ride. Just dressed warmer than I would be in July....

I average about 180+ miles per week commuting on my motorcycle.

I don't ride if it rains (too slick).

I don't ride when it's under 30 degrees (black ice is really an issue here in Northern California).

Absent that, I average about 50 mpg. on both of my motorcycles (FZ6/Star Classic), and they're a total blast.

If the road conditions are safe, go for it!

I would say it really depend on where you are. If I lived in NYC I would say yes, because I always had public transportation as an alternate work to get to my destination. In a more rural area you are stuck if you do not have a car and the weather is bad or unsafe.

Unless you get hit with constant snow like we did in Colorado, you can go year-round without much problem.

There is still 6" of packed ice with huge holes covering my street, and my bike is getting very lonely!

Why not! This is the time that seperates the "bikers" from the "motorcyclists". Common sense will tell you if there is icy or snowy conditions not to ride. Other than that with the right gear rain or shine I'm riding.
