I don't think that people "disbelieve" global warming exists, as much as they disbelieve the severity of it's impact when they consider political exaggeration and media sensationalism.
Many people think that the changes are not significant enough to warrant the attention that the issue is given, and many also think that the impact is exaggerated for reasons other then environmentalism, such as politics and anti-industrial culture.

A lot of people do not believe in Global Warming being a huge problem. But it's hard to find someone who does not believe in it at all. As far as the reaction from the environment, a lot of people simply believe that periods of warmth, and ice mass destruction, are all cyclical. And often times they can point to areas of history which mirror the way things are going today. It's not so much that they don't believe it happens, it's just that they believe certain things happen whether we are warming the environment or not.

I think one of the biggest reasons people don't want to 'believe' or acknowledge the severity of global warming is because they don't want to acknowledge the fact that the world is slowly being destroyed by us! We, the inhabitants, are not saving the world but destroying it in order to get what we want. This is a huge responsibility to claim and not a lot of people have the courage or audacity to stand up and say "yes, we screwed up but now we're going to do something about it."
Plus, global warming is progressive. What I mean is that you can't see the effects right away. They are not in front of you. Not a lot of people have actually seen icecaps (before and after) Most people don't pay attention to birds and their migration patterns. Of course, we'll say something like 'wow, i thought all birds go South in winter' or little things like that. What we don't seem to realize is that this is not a fluke. There is something deeper to all of these 'little things'.
I don't know... I just don't think people care about things that don't affect them directly. If it's happening miles away, it's okay. But they refuse to acknowledge that the effects are international and close to home.

Here it is not difficult to believe it, believe me!
Never see, felt, enjoy (?) such a warm winter...
It is right under our noses...
But then some scientists say that it was predictable.
Somewhere else, I read that the earth was on the point to move from its axe, so...
To tell you the truth, the truth has as always many faces and as I am not (by far) a specialist, I just see, feel, enjoy (?) it without knowing exactly what happens...
You are right about the birds and the ice...

Denial, I believe that there is a drastic change happening. And I am glad I don't own property on the coast.
Buy property at around elevation 40 ft above sea level for the next nice view to the ocean.

they're probably the same people who have a hard time believing in evolution... they think science is some new-fangled phase that makes things up and can't be trusted. (but things such as the bible & say, george W & such spout nothing but flat out simple truth.)

Because it is easier to pretend it isn't happening.
Besides, according to George Bush, the ice caps aren't melting, they are just a little squishy.
Ignorance in action.

This issue is not whether the earth is getting warmer, but whether man is the cause for it. No conclusive evidence exists to either confirm or deny this, and no evidence at all exists that we can do anything to change it.

I suppose it's just one of those big controversial topics really. I have my own theories about it, but I know that it's really happening. I don't concern myself with issues like that because of the controversy. I'd rather just stay out of it.
