Because in the on-going effort to raise someone who is black to the position of sainthood, MLK, jr was all they could come up with. Now mind you, even though his name is really Michael King, and there is proof he plagiarized his way through school, he was a womanizer, he was alleged to have prostitutes in his hotel room the night before he was shot, and that most of his speeches were ripped-off from others, he still got his own holiday. And, if you can remember back far enough, any state that saw through this charade, was threatened with NO federal funding. In fact he is the only American that has his own holiday! Only in America can you get away with this kind of nonsense. Oh yeah, his FBI files have been sealed so you can't find out about "the dream" for another 20 years or so.

Ok I think he deserves quit a lot of praise but the only reason it seems like we make a bigger deal about him than anyone else is because it's MLK day. On the anniversary of JFK's death we do the same for him- same with princess Di and countless others- wait till tomorrow and we'll stop talking about him till next month (black history month- he's pretty big in Feb.)

The media makes up a lot of things. If you are concerned about MLK, research the man's life and make your own decision.

By advocating a non-violent response to racism, he helped create a more free society without a violent revolution that would have lead to hundreds (if not thousands) of deaths and injuries.
Almost 15% of the US was living in a second-class (or lower) status; he effectively brought to its final conclusion the slavery of Black people in the US.
And for that, he deserves our gratitude and our respect.

Martin Luther King was a great man. He deserves the honor bestowed upon him. He was a champion for civil rights and non-violence. The world would be a better place if he was still with us. Since his death we have not had any leaders who come close to wielding the kind of influence this man had. He had a dream.........I still hope to see it come true.

Have you ever listened to any of his speeches?
I suggest that you find sites on the Internet where you can listen.
Then come back and ask your question again.

We have to give in to the black people, so they don't "rebel", and cause riots.
