I mean, known to the common man. Like Robert Frost or Cummings or Ginsberg...

I can't help but feel poetry as an art form is becoming more and more marginalized. At the same time, I'm not overly concerned that this marginalization will end up hurting the craft, more I'm concerned that the power of poetry is lost on your average guy and gal.

Maybe, but this poet won't be from a capitalist society. In a capitalist society what makes money gets published; poetry doesn't sell very well so its rarely published; likewise, good poetry is never published. If the majority in a capitalist society nurtures of love of poetry you will see great poets again, but until that time (if it ever happens), content yourself with the olds.

My personal favorites:
Walt Whitman
T.S. Eliot
George MacDonald

I would say like most literature its hard to determine what will be lasting while youre in that time period. While we look at contemporaries and say they won't last or thier message isnt really resonating with people may times only looking back can we say who the greats are. Most writers (of poetry and novels) are not recognized till the end of there career or after they die.

Time is the best test and 20 or 30 years from now i bet certain poets and novelists emmerge as the voice of this generation...but you have to wait and see to find out.

You might be right, rb.
Poetry is constantly being pushed into the background.
I think literature is general has suffered through the latest wave of technological advances, such as the Internet.
Let's face it, a young 14 year old kid would rather spend an hour on the Internet rather than read a book of poetry.
Is that a bad or a good thing thing?
You tell me.

yea me

I will be the next famous poet to start the revolution in poetry.

Poetry is watered down by slam poets, but I will break free. I am a word warrior hear me roar.
