Hi Jessica,

As with most dreams, the answer is, partly yes, and partly no.

Yes, without a doubt it came true. The last vestiges of the hated Jim Crow laws were dismantled ages ago. The Civil Rights Act, The Voting Rights Act, The Fair Housing Act, and so many others did away with official discrimination. And to that extent, Dr. King's dream came true.

But the answer is also "no." Does racism exist? Unfortunately, yes. Is discrimination still with us? Again, yes.

It's one thing to change a law; but it's another thing altogether to change people's hearts and minds. Dr. King did what he could do; but the work remains for us, the living, to strive to see that the dream does not die, and the work continues.

Cheers.

Short answer - no.
While on the surface MLK was talking about blacks and whites, he was talking more about prejudice - about judging people by the content of their character rather than external factors. I think that this millenium has shown that humanity is still affected by loathing towards people who are different. It is in our nature to fear what we do not know or understand, prejudice is an easy way to validate our fears. Equality does not exist now, nor will it probably ever. But, the dream is still worth fighting for.

There is certainly a lot of hate and violence in America, and if yahoo answers is an accurate cross sampling of who we are as a people then we are still far away from realizing Dr. King's dream. To answer your question perhaps you should read some of the previous posts here, as well as some of these websites. Just because you have laws protecting your civil rights don't expect everyone to be civil.

I think, overall, no. A lot of areas, in some locales, yes, but as a whole, the divide still exists. Give it another 50-100 years, then maybe a lot of it will disappear, but don't count on not finding the cancer still in people's minds and manners towards others that are different than themselves.

replace takes time. once you should rigidity replace you ultimately end up with a difficulty like Iraq. it truly is because of two issues. As i discussed on your different question, replace takes on popular 3 generations. That 0.33 technology is coming of vote casting age now. the 2d element is, in the previous, there has no longer been a canidate who could attraction to the rustic as an finished. Al Sharpton and Alan Keyes in trouble-free words attack a small team of dedicated voters, no longer mainstream us of a. someone like Colin Powel or Obama had/have more suitable mainstream attraction.

No, it did not. Yes, blacks are allowed more freedom and liberty and rightfully so. But still, even today, whites and blacks don't live in harmony like MLK imagined. People's perception isn't totally based on their character, but still in their skin, as we see with affirmative action.

Nah,people just don't get it.Excuse answer 1A..It's because I'm black is still the favorite complaint. It doesn't matter if it's true(it rarely is). Until everybody figures that racism doesn't have a color limit(on whose racist) the "dream" will never happen.

We aren't even close to being able to judge blacks "by the content of their character." And we won't be as long as the "color of their skin" is the first thing they want us to know about them.
