That is very common - it's because of the increased pressure on your organs down there with your uterus getting bigger! Smile sweetly and feign ignorance if it happens in public!!!

Many women experience this in pregnancy. I've heard that your digestive track slows down when you are pregnant, which may cause you to have to have a bowel movement more often. However, if you get constipated, it's most likely due to the iron in your prenatal vitamins. Make sure to include a lot of fiber in your diet to eliminate this. I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant and had to control it with diet. As soon as I cut out all the extra carbs from my diet, I found I had less gas. Best wishes for a healthy pregnancy and baby.
FYI - You might want to check out "The Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy" by Vicki Iovine. I found this book talks about a lot of subjects others don't. I've also heard that Jenny McCarthy's book on pregnancy is good. I haven't read that one, but plan to with this pregnancy.

Its a natural part of pregnancy I'm afraid, you get gas and either go more or less than normal in the early stages as your body adjusts to new hormone levels and feeding the growing featus. In the later stages you are likely to have similar problems but then its due to the size of the baby as they press on neighbouring organs. It usually causes constipation then, though trips to the toilet to urinate become more frequent. Best part of pregnancy is the middle 3 months and the very end when you know its nearly over and have the baby to look forward to. Good Luck and enjoy as much of it as you can!

I've found that Cow & Gate website is really helpful for answering questions online about pregnancy. www.cowandgate.co.uk
More privately too! They will answer directly to your email.
I am 24 weeks and I have a lot of gas too, I think its from all the fruit and fibre I am eating. You should be happy you are going for number 2's cos most pregnant women are usually constipated.
Good luck!

No, as a matter of fact. Most women claim to be constipated during pregnancy. I suppose the pregnancy causes this. Can't take anything strong for it either. This usually occurs past the fifth month though so it depends on how far along you are. Because some women have nausea and vomiting and even go to the bathroom a lot in the first stages of pregnancy.

Honey, if you are asking moms...you ain't grossing us out by asking this, and you will learn soon enough not to be embarrassed by it.....
Yes, it's normal for your bowels to do ALL SORTS of things. Wait until you are in your later stages...one minute you'll have really loose bowels and the next feel all stopped up. Sometimes, you'll pass the most awful smelling gas (without much control) in the worst places possible.
It's perfectly normal..
Congrat and Good Luck.

Is very common. Your pregnancy hormones affect how your intestines work and yes, you'll find an increase in the amount of gas produced and a decrease in how well you can have a bowel movement.

You think thats embarrasing .
I had my 2nd baby on the 19th Dec and I came home the same day. I was so sore down there I could not control the gas coming out of me, so walking down the corridor taking baby to the car I just let out the loudest noise ever. I could not even pass it off as someone else as I was walking on my own my partner was ahead of me. I just wanted to cry I was so horrified. Its funny now though. People must have been trying not to laugh and I bet they did when I was out of sight

Yea it's normal, the growing uterus puts pressure on the bowel.. plus with additional hormones and such you'll get the same effect. It's completely normal. Give it a few months and you'll be back writing about being constipated hehe.

Yep just another attractive side effect I'm afraid. Two of my friends are pregnant at the minute and the amount of wind that comes from them ( both ends) could fill a few hot air balloons !!
