Last week a vote was taken at the UN to demand that Burma release political prisoners together with Aung-San-Suu-Kyi.
The South African Govt. together with 5 others voted against the demand.
So many of the SA govt. were political prisoner themselves, how could they do this. Have they forgotten how the free world came to their aid when they were in prison. Moreover Suu Kyi is their elected leader so they have voted to keep an elected leader under house arrest. NO SOUTH AFRICA IS NOT A DEMOCRACY.

My point is that a true democracy should vote with democratic values. I was not talking about invasion.

Many people in the United Kingdom disagree with our governments decisions on many things, war against Iraq for one. We still consider ourselves a democracy.
Perhaps if Nelson Mandela had still been president of South Africa things might have been different.
The real culprits for the continued imprisonment of Ang San Suu Kyi are the Chinese and Russians who as usual put their business and political interests first.
The resolution to release political prisoners in Myanmar as Burma is now known was put forward by the United States,United Kingdom,France and six other counties and was vetoed by China and Russia supported by South Africa.

the whole point is that it is a democracy its just making bad decisions, the problem with democracy is that it only as democratic as those who are voted in to run which means that its not very democratic atall, the problem with democracy is that there so much that can go wrong and the checks and balances only work if all partys agree to let them work which they rarely do cos they know that sooner or later they'll be used against them [they're all corrupt] really and truely the checks and balances that are meant to prottect a democracy from the dictatorial mindsets of those who run it should be cast iron unbreakable they should come into affect without any vote.

It is a democracy. You cannot decide a country isn't a democracy because its leaders made a foolish decision. Otherwise there'd be no democracies left.

So, you want them to have voted for another invasion - led by who you know? I applaud and would advise you read their statement for taking that rout before making too much noise!
