They have certainly not helped things. Their support of the wedge issues employed by the Bush Administration enabled Bush to convince voters to support him even as in all other respects
the middle class has been suffering under the Bush administrations domestic economic policies.
Then you have the Dominionists such as Pat Robertson who would love to create their own version of the Taliban right here at home if they could. Religions need to stay out of politics.

I'm curious as to what would prompt such a question. Dems are in control of the House and Senate, Pelosi is Speaker of the House, Roe v. Wade has not been overturned, stoners are not being persecuted [any more than during the Clinton yrs], MTV is not being censored, internet porn revenue is on a total upswing, casinos are everywhere, minimum raise has been raised...I'm not seeing where the political structure has been revamped for the religious right agenda. Maybe I don't understand what's being asked?

I completely agree with DrDan, our country is going down the toilet because of liberal Dem. agendas. The question is rather vague though. Our republic (not democracy) has been overrun by perverts, bleeding hearts, immoral, humanistic airheads who can't truly think for themselves because they have always been taught to "do what feels good, as long as it doesn't hurt anyone" without realizing that such behavior erodes the country from within. This is a country ruled by law, and the supreme law is God's law. Every bit of our Constitution has its roots in Biblical law. The corrupt of this country have been more vocal than those who try to follow Biblical standards, to our shame. If we are becoming more vocal, Thank God. I'm tired of seeing my republic being handed over to the dregs of society, supporting with my tax dollars those who think that this country is a free ride to all kinds of immoral behavior. I'm not sure how the RR have in any way, shape or form, ruined the American Political Structure, unless you mean that our vote actually counts just like yours does. We have been silent too long in the name of tolerance. The liberal dems are the ones ruining this country, the RR are just trying to re-take what this country was built on, the rule of law (based on God's laws) and giving people the freedom to aim for a higher moral standard that allows them to better themselves and society instead of wallowing in self-indulgence.

it has certainly affected it but the political structure is always changing and this is just another bend in the river that will be navigated by the populace in time. It is impossible to "ruin" it. It is meant to be affected by such swirls and tides and can easily absorb the shocks of such influences and adjust to them as you see it now doing.

Historically, religion has always tried to control populations, including its politics. Look at the progress they have made in infiltrating the Republican party. The Bush administration is an extreme Christian based government, headed toward monarchy. Not much different than the "extremists" in Iran, Syria, etc.

They've made excellent progress toward that goal, but since the last election it's ground to a halt. Hopefully a future Democratic Administration can do a lot of damage repair (with Republicans dragging their heels and obstructing all the way).
