The SR71 had always flameouts due to its edgy engine design. In case such thing happens there was an extra tank with triethylborane installed, to be able to restart the windmilling engines in flight. As far as i know the tank was enough for 10 to 15 restarts.

So asking if such a flameout ever occured over arizona is .. obsulete, you better ask how often this happened. In case it was ever forced to land without engines the pilot would have had a hard time keeping it under control cause its definedly not a good sailplane. From what i know a multiple engine failure in a SR71 is a go for a bailout in case you cannot restart.

I LOVE the SR-71 Blackbird, and i always like hearing about it. It's my favorite plane. I have never heard about that, so thanks for the info!

well it has the best aerodynamics and building structure. they took it off service because the enormous costs of maintanence. Its my favorite plane.
