I'm a freelance non-professional (yet excellent!) translator looking for short contracts to supplement my earnings.

I would use Yahoo to track down some London job agencies specialising in language based jobs. Also sign onto some office agencies as well. There are a lot of financial institutes that could need translations.

Also contact the police and hospitals and let them know that you are available for translating if necessary. You might not get paid for this but it is good experience, exposure and looks great on the CV.

Lastly look in the quality Sunday newspapers for permament work.

What languages do you translate? Funny thing; I would try banks. My French prof did translating for banks during the summer. Hey, I bet if you could translate Chinese you could make a lot of money. Demand is high, but supply is low.
