He has to help himself...nobody can do anything for him until he acknowledges he has a problem and decides to work on fixing it. You can give him the number to the local AA group(s) and where/when they meet...but it's really up to him.

Good luck!

You have to help yourself, and he will be OK. There is a great organization called Co-Dependents Anonymous (CODA). The meeting are free and what I learned was how to have a healthier relationship all people, including myself. I learned how to release the other person with love.

There are meeting all over the United States--

He'll be okay when he decides to be okay. He has to help himself. He has to decide to help himself. It won't do any good if you keep helping and he's not helping you help him at all. You say he's a good person, I think if he ever gets lost, he'll eventually find his way back on track. Just let him (really) know and feel that you're always there for him in case he needs someone. For some people that should be enough to get by. =)

Sadly, you cannot help him until he admits that he has a problem and is willing to seek treatment. He is in the process of losing his family, his job is likely to be next. If losing his family did not give him a wake up call then it is unlikely he will be ready for help anytime soon. You should contact your local Al-anon office, they provide counseling for the families of alcoholics and can help you.
