I recently suffer from nosebleeds and my friend suggested NOT to buy a humidifier but a food steamer (like the Black and Decker food steamer) because it can both cook and humidify while I sleep. Does anyone know whether this would be as good as a sole humidifier and does it work? Should I listen to her advice?

the water will boil away if if full to the top. Instead go to a thrift store and get one or both very cheaply..bring in a bottle of water with you plug it in and wait a few minutes to make sure it works. Most of them do.

If you want to cook while you sleep put cereal grains like oatmeal, etc or grains like rice in a thermos and fill with hot water and put lid on..add raisons or honey or whatever if desired. By morning it will be cooked and it will be cooked low enough temperature to retain many more nutrients.

A steamer would be ok temporarily but it's not meant to be running for a long period of time like a humidifier .A humidifier is meant for running a long time as well as keeping crap from the air from being put into the air,it usually comes with a filter that needs to be changed but if u got the steamer u would end up buying a humidifier anyways cuz you'll kill the heater in the steamer.Hope that helps bye 4 now.

It would work, but the water would boil away long before you woke up, and the I certainly wouldn't leave a dry food steamer running all night.

A humidifier is designed to be left on for long stretches.

i dont know that cooking food while you sleep would be a good idea.....you might catch something on fire...i think a humidifier is the better choice.

That could be a huge fire hazzard. It doesn't hold enough water to keep steaming the whole night so once the water's gone it could overheat. Go to walmart and get the appropriate appliance.
What's $50.00 compared to your life. I hope you feel better and take care.

No, nose bleeds is a body ventilation problem and it means your blood is too hot. You need to find ways to cool your body down.
