I'm bisexual, so I, personally, can chose whether I want to have sex with men or women. It's a little confusing for me because I am more visually attracted to men, but my preference for who I enjoy having sex with is women. There is no choice in this any more than there is choice in that my favourite ice cream is neither vanilla nor chocolate, but chocolate chip. It just is the way it is and I have no control over it.
But, yes, I really do understand that I'm different and that most people have no choice about who they can have sex with. And, no, there are still some out there that don't understand this.

I don't believe that being gay is a choice, but what I like to tell people especially Christians when they say that homosexuality is a lifestyle choice and therefore shouldn't be granted any special rights against discrimination, I point out the fact that their being a Christian is also a lifestyle choice and ask them if they think its OK for me a Non Christian to discriminate against them.

I think that very few people dont think it's a choice. i think that homophobes dont care if it's a choice or not, they will hate anyway.
Coming out is a choice, that's the destinction that needs to be made, that's what people care about, not actually being gay. it's the statement, the pride that people wont deal with.
im gay, and with everything that's happened to me since i came out i can say that there's no way i'd chose to be if i had a choice.

I certainly understand. Although no matter what school you go to, where you work, or where you live, there will be A LOT of haters. I myself am bi, and I have a girlfriend who I dearly love. I wasn't afraid to tell some of my friends this, and all I got in return for being open and unafriand was the fact that I was bi being spread around school. I have lost friends and a lot of self-esteem from all the teasing and ridiculing. I had no choice in deciding whether or not to be bi/lesbian/straight, but I did have a choice in whether or not to tell anyone.
If anyone reading this is bi/gay/lesbian, and you haven't told anyone yet, I strongly suggest not to. Although it feels frustrating having to keep it to yourself, it's a better choice than telling one person (who tells another, who tells another, etc., etc.). You don't have a choice in your sexual orientation, but you DO have a choice in who to (or not to) tell.

The only reason people believe its a choice is because alot of "Bisexuals" switch hit. A woman can have a string of bad relationships with men and then one day decide she is done and go out with women. Ive seen it so many times and it pisses me off. This is why people think we choose.

Of course I do, its not like I just woke up one morning and said, I think I will like men today. Its something that is apart of you and its just who you are as a person and dont EVER let anyone else tell you different! No way is being gay a choice, I never asked for this, its just the way I am.

From the ignorant questions / comments asked on Yahoo Answers, the answer is definitely no they do not understand. They do not understand, yet they come to their own conclusion based on zero fact and decide to profess their opinion as some sort of law for the rest of us.

I am straight, and I understand that being gay is not a choice. I have family members and friends who are gay, so yes, I get it.

Yes, I understand that being gay is not a choice. It is a preference that one is born with.
