Not all cultures believe that, but America certainly does at this age. Having a bit more weight used to represent wealth, as the woman has enough to eat. That idea has long past and food is more accessible. Now thin represents activeness, sexiness, and whatever the magazines and TV will tell you. I'm sure a common thought is that if you are overweight, then you are lazy and do not take care of yourself. Of course, that is not entirely true for all people but there is certainly a stigma attached to it.

I don't think too thin is beautiful. Some of the anorexics I've seen on TV look like mummified skeletons! Fit and healthy means good breeding stock. The ideals of beauty go back to ancient Egypt and Greece (check out their statues).

There are beautiful fat people, but they have to work harder on wardrobe, hair and make-up to pull it off.

I would love to know that, too....I am in shape....have a great build....BUT ....I have never understood why society in general thinks that Thin is In and that's the only way to be.....there are people who cannot help being obese, and there are some that can.....but in either case, it should not be the "norm" to not look good unless you are thin....I actually have to drink vitamin and supplement shakes to stay the way I am...I have an anxiety disorder that prevents me from gaining weight and I hate it.

i guess its a cultural thing. ive never had trouble attracting men and ive never been thin. i think its the way i carry myself. ive known females who are thin and miserable and unhealthy because they usually have an eating disorder. real men like a little meat on their women. like my grandma used to say: a bone aint good for nothing but soup.
