Geopolitically, Central America has traditionally consisted of the following countries:

Costa Rica
El Salvador
Guatemala
Honduras
Nicaragua
Belize
Panama

But Mexico is sometimes included in Central America, e.g. the UN geoscheme includes it in Central America, defined as all states of North America south of the United States.

I'm counting Mexico and say there are 8 countries otherwise 7

a)Costa Rica
b)Honduras
c)El Salvador
d)Honduras
e)Guatemala
f)Belize
g)Panama
Mexico is rarely but sometimes included in Central America under certain definitions

Although Panama, which was formerly a part of Colombia, is sometimes treated as part of South America, it has come to be included in Central America....
