As a former waitress, yes...prompt and courteous service is of extreme importance. If a restaurant is crowded (maybe on a Fri. or Sat. night) or something of the sort, then I am able to understand if the service is a little slow. I ALWAYS expect a server to always be polite and courteous. I do expect him/her to know the difference between rushed service and prompt service/attentiveness. I feel as though 90% of the dining out experience is based on the service you receive. I mean, anyone can cook food at home or order in if it was all about the food. When going out, people want to be waited on and taken care of. Good food is hoped for, but I have found that people will return to an establishment and give it another try if the food was ok but the service was great. I have known people (who quickly became my "regulars") to recognize me outside of the restaurant and all they could talk about was how great my service was. If asked what they ate or did that particular evening, they couldn't say. :o) So, yes...when I find those few servers who are able to treat me as though I am the only priority they have while still allowing me to enjoy my dining out experience at my own pace, then I am thoroughly satisfied.

I think you should choose the courteous prompt service OF a quality product. If you're applying to be a server then the emphasis should be on the courteous, prompt service, but it's also up to the server to make sure the product looks good when it reaches the table, so you are also concerned about delivering a quality product. If you are applying to be a cook you will want to emphasize the quality product, but you also want the product to reach the guest before it gets cold, so you are also concerned about courteous, prompt service. Just remember that the customer should leave the establishment happy so that they come back and tell other people how good the service and food was.

Courteousness - ALWAYS, promptness - most of the time. I worked as a waitress and bartender for 10 years and I understand that sometimes, especially on the weekends, things take a little bit longer than you'd expect. However, if the server is courteous and friendly and makes sure that you have drinks and are aware that they are busy, I can live with promptness taking a little bit of a backseat. As long as when I finally get my food it's fresh and hasn't been sitting in the window for 20 minutes!

It is very important to me, but not necessary... I mean I go to restaurants all the time, and the service/promptness may be bad, but I still go back time and again. What makes you want to come back is if the food is good, but what makes you want to tip is if the service is prompt and courteous... although if they are completely rude, then you won't go back either ;)

Yes, prompt, courteous service is a must for my enjoyment of the dining experience. I have recently started eating out with someone who has had a stroke, it is amazing how rude some wait person's can be to him. Very condesending, this sets the mood for the whole night. Not good!

Absolutely! We love great service and will reward our servers and restaurants very well. There is really no excuse for bad service - it's a job that they should take pride in or find something else that they really enjoy and will excel at.

It definately is! What is the point of going to a resturant if you arent waited on hand and foot and the service isnt good? I would never eat at a restaurant if they treated you badly, so why should anyone else?

Reasonably prompt and 100% accurate when they finally bring out the food. Otherwise NO TIP.

yes that's very important, but as the other girl said I don't like it when they're hovering over me,but that once in a while they at least look over where I am just in case I need something,'cause sometimes they dissappear and you can't find them and that I don't like.but it's very important for me as a customer to be very nie and considerate, respectful with them too if I expect them to treat me the same. P.S. I've never been a waitress or anything.

I think this is the most important thing. If I don't get service nice and friendly, I get pissed. Even if the food is great, I am still irritated that they weren't nice and attentive!!
