I'm not totally sure what your question, so I'll just go on the supposition that you are asking "Does Environment play a part in human development?"
Yes, environment is one of the reasons we are the way we are. If we live in an area where everybody lives in slums and gunfire is the norm, we grow up to live in slums and use gunfire. We only associate with people in like situations. Also, there are alot of chemicals out there. Chemicals that poison the food we eat and the water we drink. We have no idea how these chemicals that we are exposed to now will affect us later. So, that is a case that our environment affects our human development. Another way, the seemingly harmless medicines we take oftimes have consequences that change our life-ex. some diet pills damage the heart enough to cause heart attacks or extensive heart damage. Then the person has to modify his way of living and do without some of the things he normally does because of his original vanity to loose a few pounds. Lastly, there is the air we breathe. If you look at the statistics, there are many more cases of infantile and adult asthma now than in past years. The air we breathe is full of pollution and other byproducts of other solutions-

A vague question - but a very good one intended - Can humans develop their economies at the same time as slashing pollution?

Yes, but only in some ways - industrial output, the economy priority of all governments and population growth all make it very hard and often the two are opposites.

So opposites don't always have to be one or two bad extremes, here it is a case of two things we all want to achieve.
