Well at least Collingwood got to the grand final unlike 14 other also rans.
Another thing pointed out by someone else is that Collingwood played Brisbane at their peak when the Lions were all conquering and realistically Port caught them after they were already on the way down. Cwood had gone from the bottom of the ladder to the top in just one year but think about the injury plagued season when the average of the side was well under 20 and they were by far the youngest side going around. Really its about developing the side for the long haul where you grow young players and build a formidable side that will with some experience have a long period at the top and therfore a better chance at September Glory, Mick is doing just that.
I actually think that the side has developed a lot since Mick took over, and I think will become stringer as time rolls on its just a shame that some interstate teams get such preferential treatment in relation to salary cap and others have hand outs from the AFL to keep them afloat due to missmanagement and or hopless supporters who wont cough up membership money.

Collingwood were a side that were truly great in the early days of AFL (or VFL back then) but they simply do not have the character today as they had back then. They really only on money nowadays which, although it seems like the modern way is actually ignorant of what is necessary to make a great club. Collingwood WERE a great club but will never be again because they rely too much on their great history. Look at the clubs that have done well recently, Swans, Eagles, Lions, Roos, Crows, they don't flout past results they just get in and do what is needed.

Collingwood will never reach the heights they have in the past because they are too busy looking at the past - they are a club for either old men or youngsters who admire old men.

Whoever said that stuff about port adelaide is absoloutely stupid and should be knocked on the head. Sure some of the fans are a bit over the top but what about all the other teams. i think the only reason people say port are bad is because they are intimadated by them....port won the GF 2004...collingwood have been in it twice in a row and still cant quiet get there.....no idea whats wrong with them.

i imagine the Cats are going to take countless beating, yet Collingwood is probable between the few aspects that could want to do it. North Melbourne has were given to be a probability hostile to Port, given their list hostile to them. probability: a million. Geelong v Port 2. Geelong v North Melbourne 3. Collingwood v Port 4. Collingwood v North Melbourne (would not or not it is tremendous if that occurs precisely thirty years after 1977 - and a drawn Grand very last!) playstation All you Adelaide supporters, happen to AAMI and cheer on the Rooboys hostile to the former enemy!

Port Adelaide are the worst team in the competition by an extremely long way.
Worst name.
Worst uniform.
Worst location.
Worst fans.
I find it disgusting that they are still in the AFL. I am looking forward to the day they are kicked out.

By the way, the reason that Collingwood always lose Grand Finals, is because they are not very good at football. Coming 2nd is worse than coming 16th.

No one is plotting against the pies, they are just not up to scratch thats all. They don't have the big guns like Judd, Cousins & Kerr and there is no way they will match up to them. simple as that. Problem is the fans are living in the past, they WERE a good team. Now they are chokers.
It's time Victorians let go and realise that they no longer dominate this game and haven't for a while...brissy, crows, sydney, eagles need I say more?

I think you've gotta look at this:

Collingwood had two cracks at the premiership against Brisbane (2002,2003) and lost both times.

Port Adelaide only needed one crack and they bought home their first premiership.

I think Collingwood consider themselves to be part of AFL culture and winning premierships isn't as important, because they always bring in giant crowds, and they are rich.
