Delivering on your back.

Routine induction.

Episiotomy.

Etc etc etc.

Somebody here says, "I'm 38 weeks and my doctor wants to strip my membranes." A pile of people here say "Go for it." Etc etc etc.

Why do so many people trust every bad idea doctors have ever had? A lot of these things turn out to be rather dangerous.

Not all doctors will induce early unless they think the baby or the mother is in danger. Women have been delivering on their backs for millions of years. Some natural tears are harder to stitch up than having the episiotomy done. Not all births go according to planned, and they are NOT all bad ideas for every pregnancy/birth.

I was just wondering this myself - why these 'myths' still perpetuate and then people post them on here when they couldn't be further from the truth! GAh! Drives me nuts.

And then they say "My doctor said this..." etc. etc. and it is so blatantly wrong. I'm not saying all doctors are bad, it's just that I sometimes wonder if they're not telling people things just to shut them up. Or do they honestly believe it??

Like "My doctor said I'll never be able to give birth vaginally, the baby's too big!" and then the baby is like not even 7 pounds at birth. Or "My doctor told me my uterus would SHATTER if I tried to have a VBAC!" Yeah, okay. My doctor tried to feed me a line of crap about that too, and I took it with a g rain of salt, did my research, and had a very successful VBAC, WITHOUT him, I might add!

As far as delivering on your back, I've seen countless pictures (drawings, etc.) of childbirth over the centuries and many women were in an upright, squatting position. Even they knew they were on to something - doesn't it make sense to let gravity take over to get that baby out? It's too bad midwives were so discredited over the last century or so.

Hopefully someday people will understand that these bad decisions lead up to something, like the unprecendented rate of c-sections in this country, for one. They think it's no big deal, which I don't understand. Not to offend anyone, but it never ceases to amaze me how, in the age of information with tv and the internet, that people can still not know information that concerns their own bodies.

i dont get it either. especially about the induction. i think the doctors just do that to be able to "know" when they are going to have to be at work. i always wondered why they induce women so much now i mean if pregnancy is such a natural thing why is there so much interference with the body's normal routine of giving birth.? the only reason ive heard is because feces can build up. why is there so much intervention with human pregnacies and not animals?

good question...that's why I had a home birth with a midwife. best decision i ever made when it came to pregnancy. I agree with you completely, though. I think it's just lack of information and ignorance. Women don't trust their own instincts enough.

it's like they want to get through the whole experience pain-free and as quickly as possible. I have often wondered why convienience is put at the top of the list of priorities over the safety of the baby and mother.

Because more women these days lose faith in their own bodies and don't trust their own instincts. Either that or it's the amount of 13 and 14 year olds that are having sex these days! Obviously these young ladies aren't making smart choices for themselves which is why these options are increasingly more popular. Stop having sex so dam young... and do your dam research. There ARE other options then these conventional methods.... you don't have to listen to everything your doctor tells you.

People get the idea that Dr's are God and whatever they say is ok. It's a good idea to question everything you don't agree with or aren't sure off, if the the Dr has a problem with that, then that's the fist sign you need to look for a new Dr.

delivering a baby is a "case-to-case" basis. what is applicable to one may not be for the other. whatever it is for your, will never be easy. so wish and pray for your safety and the baby
