It's like adding your number twice. For example 3 x 2 would equal 6, and if you added 3 twice, you'd get 6 as well. 2 x 2 can also be written as 2(2) (the second 2 should be a little one in the upper right corner of the first one) which is 2 squared. Squaring a number is multiplying it by itself. 3 squared would be 9. Hope this helps!
