.... they have no idea how many asylum seekers/paedos/rapists/murderers/terrorists there are, and any that ARE caught get let out early anyway?

They honestly seem to be more interested in snooping on regular people such as you and I than doing anything to fight crime. The Home Office are basically saying 'look, we don't know how many dangerous people there are because we ****ed up, but you must tell us ALL of your details in order to be safe!'

Are they more concerned about creating a big brother state than actually catching REAL criminals?!

i hate hippies.. I'm afraid you have fallen for yet more Bush spin. This talk of 'only tapping the phones of terrorists' is BS.

It applies to ALL US citizens. Let's say for instance you have certain political views they don't like, or are a member of an organization they don't like (animal rights, civil rights, environmental agency) etc..

You don't think they will be keeping a close eye on you? Please...........

I totally agree with your comment regarding this government's inability to keep track of criminals etc. I'm totally against a national database (they can ****k off!) but I rest easy in my bed at night safe in the knowledge that no way will they manage to set this thing up - remember the super-duper NHS database - whatever happened to that? New Labour are all about gimmicks which, incidentally they seem to come up with when there's some big government c*** up, anything rather than see ministers carry-the-can and resign.

I am in agreement with most of the answers.

The Labour governments have always been about controlling the population, Soviet style, and this is the latest attempt.

In the '60's they passed laws making the closed shop, which is mandatory union membership, whether a persons religious or moral views agreed with the idea or not. This gave people like Arthur Scargill the ability to hold the country to ransom at any time.

Now this Labour government have decided to go the other way and make every citizen carry an ID card in order to control them.

I suspect that non production of a valid ID card would make it impossible to buy anything, and any trader not asking to see the card would be treated the same as the Metric Marters who merely wanted to give their customers what they wanted.

Of course the criminals will have already the means to duplicate these cards and thus will use any ID but their own. There has been no government database that has not been hacked into, ask the Yanks, and the threat to the freedom of everyone is at stake here.

This government has lied about everything so the ID card and its reasons should be viewed with grave suspicion and rejected by the population as a whole.

How right you are people must be either to disinterested or too dense to see whats going on .Were already the most watched country in the world ,why do they need this data base Stupid people think if they have done nothing wrong they`ve nothing to worry about and they couldn`t be more wrong .our Government is too incompetent to be trusted with something like that and how long will it take before some hacker gets in there thieving peoples identity
even at the very least think about what it means to have all these different services with access to every personal detail about you people who know you could be Reading you most personal medical records then going down the pub snickering with every one else you know
and don`t think they wouldn`t they`re human we had the Data protection act to protect our privacy and now they`re taking our right to privacy away from us

First of all, not too many people are going to admit to criminal behavior. They only "get caught" after they have committed the crime and it is reported to officials.

When the government does the census count, there is no question on there asking one to declare whether or not they entertain the idea of criminal activity or whether they have committed a crime--same thing when you file your income tax. You declare what you earn, NOT what you have done in your personal life. These are the two main ways that the government tracks its citizens in this country.

As far as letting violent criminals out of prison early. Well,...THAT can be remedied by letting out our non-violent criminals who are in prison for drug use. Put those people in monitored rehabilitation programs and make them work for a living. It would save this country billions each years and perhaps turn the lives around of many people; creating productive citizens instead of "better criminals" after they have spent time in jail. Just my two-cents.

If you are a notorious criminal, such as a terrorists or a mob-boss, don't be so sure that the government [FBI-CIA] is not aware of you. They probably are, they just need time to build and iron clad case against you.

yes your totally right and people are fallng for it , many dont realise and say hey ive got nothing to hide , odviously if you know whats implemented and what will be these people wouldnt be so cavalier in there attitude .

the ID card is nothing more than the start and is nothing more than the numbered tatoo the jews had on there arms in WW2 ,the number refered to height ,weight ,age ,strengh's ,weakness's sex and so on .

everywhere we go we will be documented from face recognition cctv cameras on every main road , sat device in your car that charges you by the mile but can follow you everywhere you go ,biometric finger scanners end game being a cashless society where you pay with your finger all numbers(then were in the ****), iris scanning , rfid chips everywhere and injected in the arm (if you have a new passport there is one in it )and also sat chips , and on and on.

If people are not aware of this and you say they will be able to literally follow you everywhere you go many say well that cant happen and then they see it all and realise. ALL of the above is updated constantly in our own personal profile in the central government/police database its nothing more than a way of documenting everyone and working out the weakest, the people who will be murdered first . the global elites agender is the same as it was in WW2 total population reduction, will people wake up and actually look into it .

update : in reguards to the US not only have they got all this they also have 600 to 800 FEMA camps built up and down there country, these were suposed to be used in crisis hence FEMA (federal emergency manage ment agency) recently they have been holding refused asylum seekers in them rather than just deporting them ??? and these are not just individuals there familys ,if interested ill send you the link to the most recent case and footage of the oncentration camp.

Because we are easier to find out about - we bump the statistics up in a positive way for them! Going after people that you can't get a positive outcome from as you don't even know who they are isn't good on stats!

When are we finding out about innocent people?

Are you talking about the government tapping the phones of people talking to known terrorists? Or the government tracking the mail of known terrorists? Since when are these innocent people? I have done nothing wrong, I have nothing to hide. If I talk to a terrorist, I WANT the government to tap my phone to keep me safe. They aren't using this to convict YOU, so why are you worried?

And remember, if you are worried about criminals getting out of jail, it was the LIBERALS who invented parole. If it was up to the conservatives, all these people would be on death row.
