depending on what level you are, if you are lvl 28-30 you can get into the scarlet monestary with a decent geared lvl 60. have your friend kill everything and run the instance for you, just stay behind far enough not to gain agro. Let your friend have all the greens and BOE blues so he gains something from it too.You will get tons of XP and your friend will have no need for the BOP items that drop off of the bosses, so you'll get gear for your toon also. Theres also great quests that give great xp for turning em in so early.
If you arent that LVL yet I would say questing yields the best XP but if it takes more time than it gives in XP, don't do it unless it leads to a quest you will need l8er. After level 40, questing and instance running are best for XP. Many of the quest at those levels and beyond are quest you will need for items/trinkets for PvP or for gaining higher lvl quests l8er for higher lvl instances.

Well your first char. is the hardest one to lvl just b/c u don't know where everything is and you don't have the fundage needed to support twinking your char. But grinding and questing are the best ways to get xp. imo...1-10 starting area, 11-18 auberdine, 19-23 Westfall and Red Ridge and Wetlands, 24-30 Darkshire, 31-40 STV and Southshore, 40-50 Feralas and Bad Lands, 50-54 Felwood, 54-60 Searing Gourge and Winterspring. Thats for grinding and questing...also run instances..good xp there + good upgrades....using that track of lvling I got a Warlock to 55 in 7days played, bout 3 weeks.

Questing...if the quest requires you to kill, say 10 of something, kill 20 then turn in the quest. Kill on the way to and from the quest..kill, kill, kill.
