Wow, that is a pretty loaded question. Most of it you figure out as you go along...seriously. But if I have ONE piece of advice...when it comes to discipline, be a united front. You need to discuss how the both of you will deal with discipline in the home for the future. Children sense it when you are both divided on discipline and will play on it. Good luck!

Grab on to what historically parents have always known but have forgotten in the modern era. Two words. BE FIRM. That doesn't mean you are to be MEAN, the word is FIRM.
Mistake: "Johnny are you ready to go?"
Correct: "Johnny, come with me."
Mistake: "Johnny, do you want the red one or the blue one?"
Correct "Johnny, pick one and let's go."
The key is that he/she learns that the world does not revolve around them, but that they are a part of larger community of family and friends. When you are permissive, you teach them that all that matters is their own personal pleasure and that's what causes the classic "problem child." Rather than growing and learning to interact with the benefit of others as well as themselves in mind, they only act to benefit themselves. Be firm and be positive.

First of all, your most important job is to prepare that child for life. Whatever you don't teach your child, life will....and life wont be as kind about doing it.
Be your childs parent...not their friend.

My biggest advice would be to help out with things that she may need.
