I'm planning to buy a used one this spring. I would like to know what your running costs are Miles per gallon with a automatic transmission. Please tell me how many cylinders. From the government website it looks like the 6 cylinder gets the best.

6 cylinders are the best. 4 doesn't have the horsepower for the automatic transmission and the 8 is too gas hungry. Diesels get good mileage, but my experience with them are only in a full size Chevy pick up, but the mileage on it is 22 mpg. If you are going car, I'd go the 6 cylinder route.

I don't know the cost per mile, but I do know that VW TDI Beetles, Jettas and Golfs get 45mpg down the highway with an auto. in town its about 38.
