A box with mass of 2 kg is tied vertically to the ceiling. A bullet with the mass 10 g shot and get into inside of the box,thus, the box together with the bullet go up with h height. Ther bullet's kinetic energy which is lost during the crashing is 603 Joule. Find h.

m1 = m(box) = 2 kg

m2 = m(bullet) = 0.01 kg

g = 9.81 m/s²

Gain in Potential Energy of (box + bullet) = Loss in Knetic Energy of bullet

(m1 + m2)*g*h = 603

h = 603/(2.01*9.81) = 30.59~30.6 m

What is the direction of the bullet? Horizontal or from the bottom. Does it hit the box straight on or toward a side thus causing the box to rotate around its axis? Until you answer these crucial questions there cannot be any answer.
