i want to keep rats away from my budgeriars

Guinea pigs are defenseless animals, that is, they have no means of fighting back should they be attacked by rats. No, guinea pigs would not be a good guard-rodent for your budgies. Rats are predators. They would just slap the guinea pigs aside and go for your yummy birds.

Not a good idea to put different animals in the same cage. Their needs and wants are too different from each other.

Foolish question - would not any cage that would keep the Budgie IN keep rats OUT. Budgies are smaller than most rats....

no why would they. they will just make more mess.
mice would come in to my shead fot the gpigs food.
