You can mail order a lot of scopes. Check out Sky & Telescope and Astronomy Magazines. I had an 8" Newtonian shipped to my door years ago.

If you're serious about observing, you should check out the local amateur astronomy association - the Southern Cross Astronomical Society http://www.scas.org/ . They're actually a pretty big, well-established group and they sponsor all sorts of activities throughout the year. They have star parties where anyone can go and look through their telescopes. While you're there you can ask folks where's the best place around to get a good scope. The folks in these sorts of clubs are very friendly and love to talk astronomy, so don't be shy!

I'm not sure if your this kind of person, but there is a store that you can find in all different parts of Miami called Teachers Toys. I got a telescope from there once. They are probably about $70.
