I believe you're referring to the flower also known as Galanthus Nivalis or the Milkflower. I would say there were five.
1. The Garden Snowdrop (white)
2. Flore Pleno (double white flowers)
3. Viridapicis (green markings on petal tips)
4. Sam Arnett (large flowers with heart-shaped green markings)
5. Atkins Snowdrop (tall w/ long shapely petals

According to the Gardening page in last Sundays paper ( the people ) by Steve Riches There are over 350 different types of snowdrops or there proper name ( Galanthus Nivalis )
They are said to be a symbol of good hope.
Also known as fair Maiden of february, Candlemas Bells and Mary's Tapers, they love damp conditions and flower from January till March.
It is thought that monks brought the first bulbs to britain from Italy around the 15th. century.
The flowers close at night and open early in the morning to catch early insects.
If you put the tip of your tongue into the bell-shaped flower, you can taste the nector.
And finally Snowdrop collectors are known as Galantophiles.
