Wax strip may have been too hot. Or, it could simply be that since it was your first time, your skin was just really sensitive. Once you get home and take off your makeup, try soothing it with a little ice and just give it a few days to heal.

Waxing the upper lip is really not something for amateurs to try -- it's too sensitive. However, there are other long-term problems with waxing your moustache and it would be good to look at the options, if you really feel you must remove it.

There isn't a simple answer.

Facial hair on girls comes about in the same way as on boys because of

1) your body being sensitized, before you were even born, to testosterone -- doesn't happen to all girls, but does to many

2) your body producing high levels of testosterone

The growth rate and coarseness of the hair depends on just how much testosterone is circulating in your bloodstream.

As far as removing it is concerned it's worth remembering that

* Waxing, plucking, threading, epilating all pull the hair out by the roots and where the growth is hormonally-driven can actually stimulate a dormant follicle into producing more hair quicker. They also distort the root if done repeatedly, leading to hair growing at strange angles. And you've got to let the hair grow to quite a length before you can repeat the exercise. It can also damage the skin and discolor it. Long-term use of waxing also causes bad wrinkles.

* Chemical depilatories strong enough to remove the hair are very likely to burn the skin, cause swelling and cause long-term discoloration of the skin.

* Laser is also liable to cause burning and discoloration and in any case only works effectively on a dark hair/light skin combinantion.

* Electrolysis is very liable to cause scarring and discoloration of the skin.

Which, like it or not, leaves shaving which does not damage the skin. Best done with a men's-style electric razor, the best of which, for women, are probably those from the men's range of Norelco razors (Philishave outside the US). Most women who try a men's Norelco wonder why nobody ever told them about it before -- the way I found out about them was by borrowing my father's when I was a teenager.

Typical for a first time wax! I would recommend vitamin E oil. If the hair isn't too dark, may not want to bother waxing, as it can traumatize your skin. I wouldn't use Vaseline, as it is petroleum based and does not allow sweat to get out sometimes. Could cause zits. If you have sensitive skin, search for a product geared towards that.

That's a very tender area. Try some aloe vera gel at night and some moisturizer during the day. In the future you might want to try a Finishing Touch battery-operated hair remover. It doesn't remove the hair below the surface & is more gentle on the skin.

Use emu oil. You can buy it in any health store or order it on line. It's always good to keep it in the house for cuts, burns, nursing mothers, scrapes, wrinkles, dry skin, etc. It is used in burn centers and was originally used by the Aboriginals in Australia. It speeds the healing process!

did you do this at home or have it done by a professional? the wax was most likely too hot. I have this happen on occassion when I go to the salon. be sure to put neosporin extra strength on it. that will help it heal faster. try not to touch it. and if you can go without make-up, that might help as well.

Ouch..I would get a bottle of Vitamin E vitamins. Take one capsul out, stick a pin whole in it, squeeze the pure oil onto your skin. Keep that on until it heals. You couldn't pay me to put makeup on it. That skin has to breathe to heal.
