If you have enough room, plant a few trees. One or both should be deciduous, so you block out the harsher summer sun but allow some sun and warmth in the winter.

Most people would KILL to have a home with a southern exposure. This is the most suitable way to grow plants around a home, as well as having the ability to light your home all day without having to use electricity, depending on how many windows you have!
You back entrance on the north side of the house will be the coldest area and the most shaded, so if you want to plant anything near that part of the home keep this in mind.

Your home will certainly have lots of sunshine! Don't forget about planting some shade trees as well, it can get too hot (like my bedroom). Really good website regarding this sort of thing is P.Allen Smith. He is a landscape designer and gardener - has a show on your PBS I believe. Has suggestions in his previous newsletter regarding trees in a south facing location.

You get more sun from the south, so it wont take too much to heat in the winter. As long as you let the sun come into your house by pulling shades or blinds back when its daytime.Other than that theres no difference I know of.

You don't say what climate you are in. If it is really hot you can plant some things that will make it cooler by shading you some. Just research which plants are the right ones. I don't think it is really bad, just need to work with it if it is too hot for you.
