I think it's ALWAYS in demand because we are ALL CRAZY in some way. Marriages always need some sort of counseling, either spiritual and/or psychiatric because of the span of things people have to deal with in marriage from their homelife to the workplace and once you add a couple of kids in there . . . well you've got issues to deal with then. Family counseling would be good for someone interested in psych to go into. However, if you like it, you should do it because that's probably your calling or purpose in life.

If you are thinking about majoring in Psychology you have to plan on getting your PhD or at the very least a masters degree. There is not much you can do with just a BA or BS in Psychology- you can not counsel people and you probably will not even get a job in your field and the pay would be very little. If you are not planning on getting your Masters degree, have you considered Social Work? That is a good field and you only need your BS for it (although you would make more money with your Masters of course)
Anyway, good luck.

Plan on getting a masters, if you really want to try to make a career out of it.
