Of course gout is caused by crystals formed by too high of uric acid levels. It is basically a form of Arthritis. Change it diet will not always help, due to the fact some people just have high uric acid levels normally.
Here are some things that can help ease the symptoms, but remember not everything works for everyone.
1. Cherry Extract - You can get this at most health food stores.
2. Celery Seed Extract - Put in warm water as a tea.
3. Ibuprofen - Anti Inflammatory will help break up the crystals, but BE CAREFUL, as NSAIDS can cause liver damage, and stomach problems if you take too much.
4. Drink plenty of water.
5. Put an ice pack on the effective area to draw out the heat.
The only thing that I've found that the doctor could give me was Indocin. It is an anti-inflammatory that worked very well.
I've taken Cherry Extract daily for 2 years, and I've not had an attack since. Maybe that could help you as well.
Good Luck.

Gout is a condition where uric acid crystals build up in the body.
This can happen in the area of the big toe and cause a lot of pain.
Our foods contain purines; some foods are higher in this than others.
The doctor may place you on a lower purine diet (of which they will usually provide you a list of foods to avoid. There is also medications that can lower the uric acid in the blood
Here an alternative way to cure gout?

Cut and pastes from other sites aside, the root cause of the disease are sharp uric acid crystals that block a small blood vessel (like in a toe or finger) and which need to be reduced in size before they can move out of there and stop hurting you.
Some of the best things you can do are to go to a health food store and do a full week of detox. You'll flush out the crud that's been accumulating in your digestive system, as well as the crud in your bloodstream. Granted you'll spend most of the week in a stinky bathroom, but at the end of it you'll feel much better.
Another thing that helps is to drink loads of water with lemon juice in it. Lemon has great properties, but especially when it comes to cleansing and breaking up impurities.
If you can find a good Napropath in your area, you'll also find that there are excellent herbal remedies. I'm just not well-versed in all of them. But I do wish you luck with it.

The best natural remedy for gout would be to change ones diet and exercising. Cutting down or abstain from eating red meat is one natural remedy for gout that is chosen by a lot of people. Gout is caused by the excessive production of uric acid in the body when one consumes meat and other foods that have a high purine level. For people with gout, it is best to eat foods that are higher in carbohydrates and anti-inflammatory properties. Natural remedies for gout can consist of eating more vegetables and fruits that have low purine levels, drinking more water during the day, and keeping the blood circulating and the metabolism up by exercising regularly.
Other forms of natural remedies for gout can also include taking herbs that have anti-inflammatory properties such as ginseng, and soy. These herbs have the wonder properties of helping a person digest their food easily and keeping them calm and organize during the day. The uric levels in our body can also be raised by stress. A natural remedy for gout can only help to reduce the number and the extent of pain of gout attacks but not cures the gout completely.

You have to avoid alchol, rich foods like gravies and mushrooms.
Cut way back on meat.
Drink lots of cherry (or blueberry, pomegranate) juice or syrup--the darker, wilder and thicker the better. Bilberry contains compounds called anthocyanidins that have proven valuable against gout. These substances reduce uric-acid levels and inhibit tissue destruction. Choose a product containing 25 percent anthocyanidins and take 80 milligrams three times daily. Celery seed and tumeric also helps eliminate uric acid which causes gout.
remember what you have to do is avoid building up uric acid

Consume cherries and drinking baking soda water to help neutralize the blood. Cherry juice is the age-old remedy of anecdote. Lemon water, even though it is acidic, causes the body to become more alkaline which may help. Vitamin c in small doses up to 300 or 400 mg is helpful as is magnesium and calcium to help the bodies fight with acidity. If you hit it head on with all these suggestions and it is in the early stages you should begin noticing improvement over night.

Well, my uncle would get gout in his one knee and big toe and found that by eating fresh cherries on a daily basis eased the pain. I guess drinking small amount of bottled cherry juice from the health food store may also work.

Try Omega 3. Also known as Essential Fatty Acids, or Fish Oil. I prefer Calrson's; good quality & pure. It'll also help with improving memory & skin problems.
Another excellent supplement is Liquid Health - Glucosamine. It WORKS!
