Hello, I recently bought a new Yorkie from a breeder....she asked me if I wanted her to tape to puppy's ears for the next month (while he is in her care). She said it was up to me, and that the dog's ears will stand up on their own eventually. I don't know much about taping, does it really matter?

Thanks to everyone who answered...

But to Kelly, you said I haven't taken the time to find out about this and somehow alluded to the fact that I didn't deserve my dog for not already knowing the answer...what do you think I am doing by posting a question here? It would be pretty ignorant of you to assume that I am not also doing research elsewhere as well.
Why is it that some people think they are such experts and get such superior attitudes when beginner pet owners ask questions? That's how people LEARN.

I hope in the future every time YOU ask a question of someone more experienced, they ridicule you for asking...

Im a dog groomer and have seen many yorkies with ears both ways. Personally I prefer not taped, they're just cuter!

It's just to help the ligaments to gain strength. Some say the sooner the better and others wait. What do you want. It cant hurt.

OK people please disregard my answer to this question. I have been informed I am incorrect. I was assuming someone was correct when they told me this and now find they were wrong. I don't own dogs that require their ears to stand and therefore should have never attempted to answer. Sorry

DONT tape the ears. i suggest this because not only do the dogs look cuter but im pretty sure they clip the ears then tape them and thats how the stand up. so i suggest NOT clipping and taping them

Do you plan to show this dog? Do you plan to breed this dog? (I hope not since you have taken very little time to learn about it.) If the answer to those questions is "no" then taping would be a waste of time, energy, effort, and tape. Let the dog be-he will grow up perfectly fine whether his ears are perky or not.

I've never had a Yorkie or knew anyone that did, I have never heard of taping a dog's ears. I would call your vet and ask them for their opinion.

Whaaaaat???? Never heard of this. You better call a vwt today!! If iws is wrong call and report these people. Yorkie dogs should stand up on their own, why would she want to tape them, does she want to do this so the dog won't hear things and bark or barks it will hurt and stop[ the barking.? Don't go for this call the Vet today. Let us all know about what you find out. OK??????
