My kids eat rice, potatoes (irish and sweet), spaghetti and our local delicacy made from maize flour. They eat this alongside various proteins and veges. Is there any other carbohydrate or starch that I can add to my boring food list? Its really bothering me that I have not expanded their diet.

I personally don't think people should be eating very much of carbohydrate based foods like that. I believe that more than anything else these things (especially in large quantities) lead to obesity. Healthwise, you and your kids are much better off eating more vegetables, beans, meats, fruits instead of more starches.

You didn't list bread or cereals. Any kind of baked goods are high in starch.

I can only see bread made from whole grains or oatmeal or grits that you have not tried. Grits is a Southern food made from ground corn. Oatmeal helps with controlling cholesterol and it is never to early to start good eating habits to control this.

All fruits are fruit and vegetables. A "vegetable" is a plant, any part of which is employed for food.

In the superstore, fruits are usually chosen far too soon. Some are rocks, many are wrong. Some of the fresh vegetables are right (zucchini, onions, garlic, lettuce, greens, and a few others) so I'd have to go with vegetables.

As long as it's good carbs then you are all set. Make sure you are buying whole grain rice and whole wheat pasta. Fruit also generally has carbs as well.

They make a 100% wheat pasta. You might also try brown rice (has more antioxidents), Cous cous, (many different kinds), red skin potatoes, 100% wheat breads (loaf, hot dog, hamburger, wraps). I hope this helps.

Here's some more help.
