For the legalities, you will need:
1. To be registered as a trader by your local council.
2. Land with permission to trade from.
3. Trade insurance to allow you to drive any car. Not cheap!
4. Trade plates to move non road taxed cars around. Need above trade insurance and land to get these.
5. Public liability insurance for your yard.
Also very advisable is:
1. Stock insurance for your cars.
2.. An account with an auction house.
3. A vehicle to transport your stock from auctions to your yard.
4. A subscription to Glass or Cap for your car valuations, £300+ a year (parkers is no good).
All cars you sell must:
1. Be given a mechanical inspection. Also either have a fresh MOT or be capable of passing an MOT on date of sale.
2. Come with a degree of warranty, this depends on how much it sells for. You cant however just write sold as seen on every receipt and think you'll get away with it.
Still want to be a bona fide motor trader?

All you need to do is sell the for more than they cost you.
Easy you say, consider these though:
Average service £200
Mechanical inspection before displaying ( aa, or rac ) £90
12 months warranty £200
Paintwork and repair to a used car £100 minimum
full valet, interior shampoo, etc £50
advertising £50 minimum for colour slot
VAT between buying and selling price
HPI check on car £35
Fuel and transportation £100 per car
Average profit in Glass Guide between trade and retail £1500
The people that slag off car dealers are usually people who can not understand simple business management. Buy cheap, sell high, dont forget, customers lie.

go to an auction and buy the cheapest rubbish you can find, clean it up a bit, get a doggy m.o.t. and park it on a roundabout or McDonald entrance stick for sale on the window with a fictitious description of all the good points, add a mobile No and weight for a mug to contact you. After taking the money don't forget to change your Sim card so as you don't have to listen to all the complaints
