Have you ever wondered? Your wife or sister in law bear a resemblance to your mother or sister? This is what I noticed.

I know my colleague for a number of years. Recenetly, he invited all of us in our company back for Christmas. I found his wife have an uncanny resemblance with his sister. Looking at an old photograph of his parents hung on the wall in his house, I also notice his wife have an uncanny resemblance with his mother during her younger days.

Since then, I decided to pay more attention to the people around me and I seem to notice a simliar trend. My neighbour's wife also have some semblance to his mother. Likewise, another neighbour's son in law look a little like him during his yonger days.

Why is this so? Or are all these just a figment of my imagination?

Apparently men and women often choose partners / mates who resemble their parent [of the oposite sex ] in some way. It is called the theory of '' prima copula ''. The reason for this because we associate our parents with nurturing and good genes and thus we try to find a mate who can pass on similar good genes or nurture children in the same way.

its uncanny...i think it stems back to adam and eve if you believe their was a adam and eve....you are right of course..but dont you think the similarity's are because you are looking for them..when a baby is born usually mums and dads can recognise certain features that either parent will claim that they came from them...or are you saying some of us have incestuous tendencies?maybe your right ..the only similarity's i see is your colleagues wife is female much like his sister, just like your neighbours wife and his mum...have you ever checked out same sex couples? just a thought.

Sounds like the people you speak of think of their family traits (hair colour, skin tone etc) as attractive, and seek them in a mate. Nothing more (hopefully!).

I think that we look for a partner who comes across as being comfortable to be with. We are usually comfortable with those who have been around us in our lives.
