yes dude. when the americans knew beckham was coming to america, the club had many new subscribers. beckham has already conquered the world. It won't be difficult for him to conquer America,, thanks to his great worldclass talents.

Yea I do if he plays at a high level for the next 3-5 years. One of the biggest things I think Beckham will do is make the MLS more appealing to other superstars just off their peak years. In 5 years I can see every team in the league having 2 internationally known stars. I think the only way Beckham's time here is a total failure would be if the Galaxy don't surround him with real talent and the team is always near the bottom of the league. If he captains a championship team or two it will get lots of media coverage on ESPN and other shows of its ilk. Most people laugh off the fact that soccer in the US has more players in the younger age brackets than any other sport but I think if kids have some great players they see and watch on TV all the time they are far more likely to continue in the sport rather than give it up at the Junior or High School levels. All soccer needs is the Michael Jordan effect. What MJ did for basketball and Gretzky did for Hockey was make it exciting and fun to watch all the time. Can Beckham do that? I hope so. While it may never overtake the Big 3 (American Football, Basketball and Baseball) it has already crept past Hockey and it's growth is limitless.

He will not make any difference of how soccer are view in the US. Well first off, he's not the best of the example of a well disciplined soccer player. However, he is the best example of a undisciplined soccer star who jus wants all the headliner, attention and glam life on him. If he wants to make a difference, seriously, he should have the least of good resume on his job experience. Good recommendation. Good rapport among colleagues and coaches. At least good achievement. Greatly good disciplinaries record. Not good ever well known in the entertainment world. If you're one of the most famous soccer player in the world, but bad records in achievement and disciplinaries department, do u the least think u can make any tiniest even, different in Soccer world? Beck will only gives a bad taste in soccer arena. The American will surely think "oh what a glam life to lead if i will become a soccer star one day?" Beck will only show what kind of glam life the American kids will be having if they becomes a soccer star. The same kind of glam life if u are a baseball or basketball star etc. No different will it ever make.
Therefore, as one of the people here state that, at the end of the day, the American will surely return to their comfort games of baseball or basketball.

first of all, his name is Beckham not Beckem. Given his popularity & based on his image & brand value, I believe he will transform the way soccer is perceived in America.

There is so much hype about him & his wife Victoria & many people are saying he is just a jersey-seller at Real Madrid, an almost non-existent & perennial bench warmer in Spain. But the Spaniard bigwigs don't bother about this. what they care most is money or the lack of it

he's already at the wrong side of the game to start with
he's not really into the skills department of football but he LOVES the attention, fame, money etc that he gets outside of football
all these are so much mentally and he's never been playin gwell since leaving man utd. i think one of the reason why he got dumped is because of all the distractions he brings to the game, which is bad for both him & his fellow teamates.

so overall, i think in US football will turn into a hollywood kind of thing if he were to make an impact. and i think to change the face of football in america, it will take more than just 1 beckham and a lot more years & attention are needed before they can be compared to other leagues.

plus, even pele can't do it, do you think becks can do it?
he's only there because of money right???

if you were given 3 choices...

a) stay in real madrid, be a benchwarmer forever
b) go another club in europe, continue to receive more criticism
c) go to a more glamourous laid-back football league with loads of $$$ guaranteed...

what will you choose?

I am just hoping he will make more people aware of soccer's excitement. It seems where I am from, a lot of people just assume that it's so boring to watch...Maybe they say that because they think highschool soccer is boring and so they assume the same thing for professional soccer...Maybe some people have just heard that from others and so they never watch it...But I'm just hoping that when Beckham comes, he'll turn heads and people will take a glimpse and hopefully find the game fun to watch.

Not a chance! The only thing Beckham will do is possibly increase the number of ticket sales of those who are all ready soccer fans.

He will not attract more people to the game of soccer. Anyone who is telling themselves any different is fooling themselves.

10 out of 11 people here in the states still don't even know who he is. They wouldn't be able to tell you who he was if he was standing right in front of them.

Soccer is just not a popular sport in the US period.

In any case I wish him at the game the very best. They both will neeed it.

Not a huge difference. He may bring some new fans to the game, but American football will always be the most popular sport in the USA.
