Should I do english or English Literature for year /grade 11?
Would I have a better chance of getting into Harvard College for undergraduates if I did English Literature (which is higher than regular english as one of my subjects?).

I am going to do Chemistry, Physics, Introductory Calculus, Geometry & Trigonometry, Italian and either English or english literature.

All of these subjects are the highest ones available for me for Year/grade 11. Also, would they (Harvard) prefer I did Italian (language) or a Society and Environment subject such as Geography or history or would they not care? I am extremely good at Society and Environment but the language is more challenging.
What ones should I choose? English literature is harder. I am very good at English. In english literature you analyse pieces. I am not sure whether I would be required to write poems..that is a weakness of mine). Would Harvard care aout undertaking the most rigorous curriculum on offer for me or would they

The question is: Should I take English Literature or English?

Also, should I continue with Italian or do a society and environment subject such as History? I would be wanting to do a Bachelor of Science at Harvard.

Yes, universities do care about the subjects. I took ap class my Jr year and then attend the jr college my senior year, i was excepted at OSU ( my first choice) in October of my senor year. They look very closely at the courses and grades you Jr. year and the just glance at the subjects your are scheduled for your senor year


Take the English Lit course, it is harder but more interesting. We did not have to write poems
Continue with the Italian. three years of a language is required in our state.

Your sat's are most important. You will have to met all of Harvards requirements for acceptance. Which is not easy by any means. It does help if you can get an alumni to help you with you application. English Lit is required along high grades. I have a niece that was validictorian of her class & even took some pre-college courses. She applied and was turned down at Harvard. She ended up at MIT. She is 35 & still paying on her college loans & will be for at least 10 more years.
Keep in mind that even if you do everything right you may not get accepted. They have a waiting list of applicants also. Don't let that stop you from your goals. What I'm really trying to say to you is. It's great to have a goal & work for it, but if you get turned down don't take it personally. Have a back up plan & don't miss a step. Their are lots of excellent schools that cost a lot less than Harvard & still provide excellent quality education. Remember college loans don't just go away. They stay with you until you pay them off.

I think that Harvard would be more interested in your overall class load instead of your SAT scores. I would take the English Lit course because it would be more helpful in college as well.

If you need help with writing poems ask your english teacher to help you with it. You sound like a good (if not great) student and I'm sure they would be willing to help you.
