have a flat(ish) stomach??? I'm 33 and a size 14. Things are looking a bit saggy. If I'm strict about diet and exercise will I ever achieve my goal and get a flat stomach?

It depends... It depends on why your stomach is the way it is and your history. If your stomach is the way it is because you've had three children, or because you used to be a size 24 than realistically it may never be the way it once was, because its loose skin rather than excess fat.

If its a simple case of losing the spare body fat covering your abdominals and toning a bit, then yes its perfectly feasible.

For fat burning do a mix of aerobic and anaerobic cardiovascular exercises. Aerobic you do for 30 mins + at a manageable speed where you should be able to talk. This builds endurance. Anearobic you do speed intervals where you go flat out and then have recovery breaks where you let your heartrate come back down and go again. That builds stamina. You can do this while running, cross trainer, rowing, cycling. Both aerobic and anaerobic cardio burns fat, just in different ways. You'll also develop your slow twitch as well as you fast twitch muscle fibres that way.

Then don't just do bog standard sit up, do weighted leg raises (veeery slowly!!!) and twists. Also top half and bottom half pulses. Boxing is great for cardio as well as core strength (especially hooks).

If you change the lifestyle that got you to the saggy bit you will. Diets always fail if you haven't heard, and exercise is only good for as long as you do it. You have a good start by not paying a whole lot of attention to the scale. Inches are very important and as you exercise, eat healthy and establish a renewed outlook, you will see positive changes.
As you exercise you will gain muscle mass which weighs more than fat and therefore it will appear for a time that it just isn't working, but it is and eventually the weight will slough off after the inches or cm. Depending on which side of the pond you're on.

Hi, this is to assure you that we are in the same soup, but with diligence and patience you (and I) can have a flattish stomach. The diet and exercise will definitely help but it has to be mantained in the long run. Sometimes one is tempted to relax when one is able to achieve the desired waistline, shape or weight.

I am 42 with a 14 month old baby and working on having a flat tummy, so don't ever give up.

Okay, first of all, don't worry about diets so much. As long as you exercise, you can eat anything that you want. And of course you can have a flatish stomach. Just set small goals for yourself. Say stuff like "I want my stomach to get a little smaller" and when it does, say "I want my stomach to get a little smaller." Just set yourself goals and exercise. Good luck!

Yes, you will. Make sure you're doing muscle building exercises in addition to aerobic exercises & it will happen.
